Mediaville closing shop

Freelancing

Dear media professionals of Montreal,

I had big dreams and high hopes when I started up Mediaville: create a space where Montreal’s media professionals could meet, and maybe even collaborate. There were plans (which were *thisclose* to coming true a few months ago) to revamp and expand the website into an online community, with a marketplace for both members and potential clients, who would be able to “shop” for services or even build a team of freelancers from various specialties on the fly.

Alas, due to a lack of time and resources on my own part, among other difficulties, I had to put those plans on hold. My hope was that it would be temporary. Unfortunately, the delay will most likely be indefinite.

My heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped out along the way: Dan Kirk, the site’s sorely missed contributor with a Kiwi accent; the members of our partner associations, AMWA-Canada, AELAQ, EAC Atlantic/Quebec, ELAN, PWAC Quebec, and STC-Montreal — you know who you are!; and any media professionals out there who attended Mediaville’s events or followed us online.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to meet with and work with so many amazing people, and hope to do so again. Although this project didn’t work out for me, I hope other associations, present or future, will be able to accomplish the important task of bringing this city’s huge pool of creative talent together.

Anyone who takes up the challenge is always welcome to drop me a line at giancarlo(at)letteratimedia(dot)com.

Giancarlo, thanks for putting together such an amazing association. Here’s hoping that someone else will choose to carry the torch. All the best in your new endeavors!
