Last Monday was the 10th Annual YES Artists’ Conference: Business Skills for Creative Souls – by all accounts, an excellent, inspirational and very informative event.
Unfortunately, one I missed. Even though I had a heads up… two actually. One from the Invisible Cities Network, which was unfortunately buried in my inbox.
And another from fellow Mediaville volunteer Jacqueline Snider.
Jacqueline, a freelance writer, editor and proofreader, attended the conference. So over a coffee we talked about her experience as an attendee, and the thoughts and inspirations she came away with. Read a quick post about it on Jacqueline’s blog.
She identified five main points that she took away from the panel discussion:
-Always remember what you’re searching for, don’t just give people what they want.
-There’s always a market for what you do. Never forget this!
-Do it yourself!
-Talent isn’t enough – you also need drive!
-Remember to have fun!
“[These] lessons that the panelists wanted all of us artists to remember and apply to our professional lives could just as easily be applied to all facets of our personal lives as well.”
Over the course of our conversation, Jacqueline explained each of these ideas in much greater detail, what each means to her as an individual and as a freelancer.
In a series of follow up posts, we’ll take a look at how she explained each of these points individually, and for those of us that didn’t make it on the day, share some of that inspiration, information and insight.
