Mediaville Montreal is all about bringing freelancers together on projects and opening up new collaborative possibilities. Up until now, I thought this would only involve financial considerations. But what about our collective potential to enact social change?
Well, I just received a note (see below) about freelancers coming together to give back to the community. Namely, starting a local space where professional writers, editors, designers and others can tutor students and help them realize their creative potential. It’s inspired by a US-based organization called Once Upon a School.
I’ll let Paula Engels take it from here:
You are receiving this [message] because you like to be inspired and you enjoy
living your life with purpose. This is an invitation to a “happening”…Please watch the Dave Eggers TED TALK video which I guarantee is amazing and
very entertaining! And say: “Yes, I want in” only if you are so inspired that you know you MUST
join in on the ground floor of this project to create this experience in
Montreal. (If the time is not right for you now, know that the door is
always open for you to get involved as we evolve and expand.)I happened upon this video by “accident” only last month, and I can’t stop
thinking about it! Hopefully you will be excited about this opportunity to
make a difference in the lives of so many children, and join us at a
preliminary Brainstorming Session on the possibilities.Thank you in advance for forwarding this invitation to any positive forces
you know who would love to lend their energy and expertise to the
cultivation of this project.Hope to see you on:
